LOOKING FOR YOGA SPACE
After nearly a year at our wonderful yoga center above the
Island Hammock Animal Hospital, KTP Yoga Program is seeking a new home. Dr. Martha Edwards and John Kocol, our Center benefactors,
are expanding their animal care space and so we are currently looking for another place to hold regular classes. We appreciate
their support of the program and wish them continued success.
We are open to exploring options -- from a donated, full-time Center to space we can
use on a regular basis. Indoors works best -- big windows or outside access are bonuses!
We need your help, energy, ideas and
sparks....please send leads, with any background info or contact people you have, to www.keystopeace.com We have already looked
into Key Largo Park, Mangrove Marina, and a dance studio in Key Largo.
Let's all put our energy into co-creating a new community
yoga center.
In the meantime, our teachers are available for private lessons. Some are also teaching at local yoga studios -- Paradise
Yoga across from Founder's Park and Froggy's Gym in Tavernier. KPJ also offers yoga further south in Islamorada. We
suggest you check with these businesses for exact times, fees and location.
Let's see what we manifest in 2012 for KTP Yoga !
In Peace,

"THE LONG WALK HOME"
News
and Update from Ron Zaleski's
journal and mission
On Wednesday Nov. 23rd I got an email from Laine Evans, Congressman Philip Roe's aid
asking if I could come to DC on November 30th to the VA Health Sub Committee. By the time I got the email and called I was
unable to reach their office, it was closed for Thanks Giving till Monday Nov. 28th. When I got in touch on Monday she asked
if I could make it and told me the meeting was on Friday Dec. 2nd? I said, yes.
Over
the Thanks Giving weekend I got in touch with a retired pilot, Ron Cole who got me a Buddy Pass to fly there. I also got in
touch with Russell Morris who had emailed me a year ago from DC saying he supported what we were doing and asked if I could
stay with him while I was in DC, he said, yes. I called Paul Sullivan with Veterans for Common Sense telling him I was to
go before the Committee and asked what I should do to make the biggest impact as I only have one chance. He told me to go
a day before the meeting to introduce myself to everyone on the committee and submit a letter to each of them stating what
we want, why we want it, why I did it and a list of questions to ask themselves about the topic,
Flying in Wednesday night I was met by Russell who took me into
his home, fed me and the following day helped me get to the capitol to see the committee members. I spent the day going to
all of their offices meeting their aides and handing out our letter. Before the day was done I did get a few condescending
looks from some of the staff, maybe because of the absence of shoes? Some were very receptive because they had family in the
military. The last person I went to visit wasn't on the committee, but had got
in touch with me when I was walking across the country. I stopped in at Congresswoman Grace Napalitano's office and saw
her aide Anne who was my contact. She was so happy to see me I thought I was a long lost relative. She said, I wished I had
known, my boss would really like to meet you, are you available later I will call her and see what we can do. I said, yes.
I got a call later asking if I could come by the office at 5pm to meet, I said, yes. When I got there at 5pm Anne told me
we were going to meet her down on the house floor. When we got there and told the guards what we were doing they let me go
to the entrance where Grace came out, she couldn't thank me enough, then introduced me to about 20 Congressmen and women.
I was somewhat overwhelmed. The following day at 9am I was at Congressman Philip
Roe's office where he wished me luck and said he would see me at the meeting as he had other meetings to go to. His aid
told me I wouldn't be allowed to speak, but would be recognized, I was a little disappointed, but figured God had a plan,
which so far has been better then the ones I come up with. Some times I think I could hear him say, What were you thinking?
I sat in the front row while the sign I carried across the country was displayed in the back. The chair person Anne Berkele
from NY said that Phil Roe asked if he could introduce a special guest, one of his constituents. Phil said, I would like to
recognize Ron Zaleski who isn't my constituent, I met him as he walked across the country to raise awareness for Vets
and he has legislation with him. When he was done Congressman Reyes from Texas who I met yesterday on the house floor with
Grace Napalitano said, I would also like to recognize Ron Zaleski, I have read his legislation and think we should act upon
it. I sat through a few hours of experts with degrees talking about Veterans and
when it was over I gave each of them a copy of the petition, had an interview from the paper. The speaker of the committee
came to me and said, I was sorry I didn't have you speak, I didn't have enough notice, what can I do for you, my brother
was a Marine. I said, we can't wait for the Government, it's up to us to reach out to the individuals not looking
at the effect, but the cause. Ask that young man or woman to go for a walk and talk with you. You don't talk, you listen
to them. They aren't different from us,we are all the same just having different experiences, Before I left DC I was told by Ane that Congresswoman Grace Napalitano and Congressman Reyes are working on turning
the petition into legislation plus 2 additional points that were in the letter we submitted to the committee. The petition
can be found on our website and the 2 additional points are an anonymous PTS support group available for active military personnel
and that the family of those coming home are involved in the counseling, for who they sent over isn't who is coming home.

"The Keys are shaped like a rope, and the people of the Keys have the ability to
use this rope to pull the rest of the country along with it." ~ Gesha-la (Tibetan Buddhist Monk) as translated when he
was speaking about Keys to Peace bringing peace into our world.

"The one
hope for the future lies, I believe, in Sacred Activism - the fusion of the deepest spiritual knowledge and passion with clear, wise, radical action in all the arenas of the world, inner and outer.
We have very little time in which to awaken and transform ourselves, to be able to preserve the planet,
and to heal the divisions between the powerful and the powerless.
Let us go
forward now with firm resolve and profound dedication." ~Andrew Harvey

Be the Change youth plan return of
signature program on
MLK Day
High school youth who have been a part of Be the Change of the Florida Keys (BTC) have
been asking for the return of Challenge Day, the organization's signature program for more than two years. In January
of 2012 they will get their wish. Alex Castillo, Senior at Coral Shores High School attended Challenge Day as a freshman and
ever since has been an enthusiastic advocate to bring the event back. "Challenge Day is important to me because it brings
people together, promotes respect and teaches us about caring for one another and the importance of service."
The first Challenge Day is scheduled to take place on the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. in honor and celebration
of a man who advocated for unity, equality and social justice, all components of the Challenge Day experience. Members of
the BTC PeaceJam Youth Board are instrumental in the youth momentum behind planning and implementing the one day workshop
as well as all the follow up activities, projects, and events planned in the coming months. Each member of the youth board
will attend an event at their school and most will serve as peer facilitators or "Red Shirts" because of the red
shirts they wear during the event.
Keys To Peace has donated $1000 to Be The Change to help bring Challenge
Day to our high schools. Denise Downing, KTP member says of the day, "We encourage our members to 'Be the Change
You Want to See In The World' and volunteer one day of your time to the event. It's an inspiring day for everyone!"
A
New Year to Practice Loving-Kindness

A New Year to Practice Loving-Kindness; It takes
Mindfulness
Mindfulness
is imperative to acting out of love and kindness. Mindfulness means to be attentive, aware and thoughtful. It is a necessary
basis for developing the characteristic trait of loving kindness. These two actions: being mindful, and being kind, are important
for creating a world which perpetuates peace and happiness.
Each of us is born with a great capacity for loving kindness. Only with a calm
mind though, which is free from anger, greed, and jealousy, can the seeds of loving kindness grow. This year let's nurture
the seeds of loving kindness in ourselves. Help them take root, and facilitate its maturity by practicing awareness. Let's
all live in togetherness with a common interest in being kind and mindful in the new year ahead. By doing this, we will sustain
and bolster the force that holds this universe together...and that is - compassion!
Looking for the good in everything will open the doors to the wondrous potential of transforming negative into positive
and keep you healthy and grounded. Herein lays the basis for developing habits which will stabilize you emotionally and help
you develop genuine happiness.
Start tomorrow morning by waking up with smile on your face. Begin your day with happy thoughts. By all means, do not
hold grudges into the next day or wake up angry or act mean because you might not have slept well. This will only drain you
more and transcend you into the depths of depression. Not to mention drag everyone else around you down.
Everyone can imagine something happy. That
doesn't mean you have to force a thought of incredible happiness, just formulate a happier thought. It doesn't have
to be the happiest thing in the world, just something leading you to inner peace and joy. It can be simple as, "I am
happy to be alive!"
The realm of forgiveness becomes a sanctuary for knowing love. Forgive yourself first for resisting change. Allow healing
vibrations of infinite love and gratitude to perpetuate from acts of forgiveness, hope, accepting, releasing and moving on.
Do your best not to rationalize selfishness or even worse, blame others for your ill-feelings. If this is a habit of yours,
take full responsibility for yourself and stop it now.
By blaming others you take away your ability to accept people for who they are. It hinders your ability
to practice loving kindness and achieve the sublime state of equanimity or what is known
as "peace of mind." Try using this mantra... "I am peace, and peace is in me."
Now
is the time to make a shift in your thought processes. Choose to be mindful. Choose to be kind and have a healthy and Happy
New Year!
Infinite
Love & Gratitude!

Island Marketplace Booth
The Island Marketplace -mile marker 101 bay
side-is one of the first Keys to Peace permanent public placements. With our booth there, we have the opportunity
to become a real hub for peace and community outreach. Already we are the location for the food drop-off spot for a local
church food bank, and we're making arrangements to work with local womens shelters in the area to provide assistance.
The opportunities are endless --- we're just getting started..
The booth is located just about in the center of the space when you come in the
door. Items are displayed, and free information is on the tables when no one is at the booth, but when it's manned there
are t-shirts, Rubik's cubes, cups, books, necklaces, and tons of other neat things to set up and sell. And we have a large
lending library at the booth that is there all the time.
The Market's hours are Friday through Sunday,

TEN KEYS TO PEACE - By MIMI GREEK BE HERE NOW: Keep your attention in the present moment. Being upset aboutthe past and worrying about the future is self defeating.
FORGIVE:
We do not forgive because we "should", or because someone deservesit. We forgive to free ourselves from the bondage of resentment. Die to thepast every moment. Live this moment fully.
OBSERVE: Notice your thoughts. Which ones
make you upset? Which ones makeyou feel better? Remember, you can
choose your thoughts.
FOCUS: Focus on thoughts that help you feel better. You can be master ofyour own mind.
QUESTION: Often, thoughts that upset you
are not true. They are beliefs youhave carried with you from the
past. Question thoughts and beliefs. Can yousee things differently?
MEDITATE:
Practice quieting your mind. Make a connection to your Higher Self(Higher
Power, God, Universal Energy).
REMEMBER: Remember your True Self. You are not your thoughts.
Remember theYou behind the thinker.
LISTEN:
Listen to your inner voice. It is the voice that guides you, comforts
you, and gives you strength.
SURRENDER: Accept what is. Release all resistance to what is. What we resistwill persist. Breathe. When we accept life the way it is, we find peace.
